Els VAN DONGEN

Abstract:Els van DONGEN obtained a Ph.D. in Chinese Studies from Leiden University, the Netherlands (2009), a Master’s degree in Chinese Studies, and a post-master’s degree in International Relations, both from the University of Leuven, Belgium (2002, 2003). She was a visiting Fulbright Scholar at Boston University (2004-2005) and a visiting researcher at Peking University (2005/2006). Her research interests include the history, historiography, and intellectual history of modern China, with a special focus on revisions of history and debates on intellectual history during the reform era (post-1978). Within the framework of the broader themes of nationalism, transnationalism, and national identity, her recent research project deals with Chinese diaspora engagement strategies during the reform era.
