Mr Nicholas Borst, research associate and China program manager, has been with the Peterson Institute for International Economics since 2011. His research areas include China's financial system, trade policy, and US-Chinese relations. Mr Borst also edits the Institute's China blog, China Economic Watch. He previously worked as a consultant at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). His experience also includes economic research and analysis at the US Department of Treasury.
Mr Borst joined the Peterson Institute following his master's studies in international relations and economics at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). He also earned a graduate certificate in China Studies from the Johns Hopkins–Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies. He speaks and reads Chinese and lived and worked in China for several years. He graduated with summa cum laude from the University of Arizona, where he earned his BA in political science and international studies. He has testified before Congress on developments in the Chinese economy, and his research has been cited by the Washington Post, Financial Times, and New York Times.
